REPAIRS
BURNY LES PAUL CUSTOM

After buying and repairing my first Burny LP Standard guitar and getting my money back, I decided that I would use that money to buy another.

It too arrived with a broken headstock.

The break was not as nasty as on the Standard, so I just glued the headstock back on.

The problem is that my glue joint turned out ugly, as I had not clamped the pieces properly together and they had slid slightly as the glue dried.

I decided that I would try to make the glue joint stronger by making a sort of backstrap overlay.

I planed a couple of mm off the back of the headstock and the beginning of the neck.

I then glued a backstrap veneer, which was actually a thick piece of wood that I had previously sculpted to match the wood I had removed. This enabled me to carve a volute, much like I had done for the Standard.

I then sprayed the back of the headstock black and made a "transition" sunburst to hide the break.

It is still visible but discreet.

...This funky '70's LP can now start singing again.
