THE CAVALCADE
:


History:
In 1862, March 30 Specifically, we find
traces of a grand procession, which, year after year, taking place each time
with more splendor, entertainment, bringing the crowd to Jemappes major days of
all corner of Hainaut in northern France.
In 1863, the Société
Saint-Eloi organized a religious procession in order to raise funds to benefit
the poor of the town.
By 1900, the procession moves. Besides the emerging
folklore groups humorous trends (first left the giant "Dominique"
.
Towards 1910 - 1911, following its course of evolution, the Easter parade
and carnival is primarily commercial.
After the war 1914 - 1918, the
procession continues its upward march. It is true that we know a period of
exceptional prosperity. It shows included many groups from the Central region (La Louvière) :
The Gilles of Morlanwelz "etc ...
The parade is inflated by the contribution
of carnival groups created in the surrounding groups and gilles created in the
locality.
In 1921, the first company was established in Jemappes. It
was the "Gilles de Jemappes" coffee Monilia, CAGNOT said, then came other companies
gilles The "Gilles de la Manufacture", those of the Grand and carnival societies
were also formed.
For completeness, it is worth adding that, around 1950,
the formula of the carnival will change somewhat by the introduction of platoons
of cliques and majorettes.
Thus we see to create the Clique schools communal
Jemappes which will, shortly thereafter, the "click and Majorettes of Jemappes".
2006: 100th Edition:
To mark this historic anniversary with a white
stone, the Committee of the 100th Cavalcade and the City of Mons put the dishes
in the large. A great time to mingle without distinction of party, history,
friendliness, enthusiasm and passion. No fewer than nine tables and told the
spectators, and seven tanks take the start on Easter Monday (April 17, 2006),
starting 14, in Wilson Avenue. Then a journey through 100 years of history that
is proposed, the representation of the Rooster, the symbol of Jemappes at the
Cavalcade of Horses, through the post-war and social events of 1960. After the
procession of "Dream Smugglers", led by director Yves Coumans, place the still
expected Gilles of Jemappes.
On the sidelines of this parade, an exhibition
commemorating the Cavalcade was mounted, with lots of photos and
documents.
The cavalcade takes place every Easter weekend.
Sunday
In the morning, picking gilles in their homes in
battery (drum and bass drum), go to the various local pickups.
The afternoon, walk of gilles in folk costumes, fancy costumes in the streets of Jemappes. From 21h,
gathering of all the companies at "The Phare" and rise in procession with
Bengal lights into the main square, followed by a final rondo and fireworks.
Monday
At daybreak, collecting gilles at home battery, go to the
various local pickups. Departure to the main square followed by the 1st day of
the parade of all societies, then the medal gilles jubilee.
The great folk
(chariots, horses, majorettes, groups of fantasy, ...) starts on Monday
afternoon, followed by groups of gilles who start with traditional orange launch and wear hats with ostrich feathers.
Late afternoon, the second parade begins on the main square with the
launch of oranges of all groups combined. Return to their local groups for the
rest.
On Monday evening departure of the flagship groups gilles march with
Bengal lights for the final rondo on the main square, with fireworks.
Tuesday
On Thursday morning, exit groups with violating civil Binche
or music.
On Tuesday afternoon, leaving all groups of society sarreau or
fancy costumes in the streets of Jemappes. The Royal Society of "gilles de
Jemappes" is still in costume of Gilles with bumps, and burning bumps on a Tuesday
evening on the main square and mark the end of the cavalcade.
